Memory keys might be used to easily dial contacts or enable call forwarding's. But this keys are also usefull to prepend codes to phone numbers; this is for example when we like to force outbound CLI number. See example below with most common keys set up:

  1. Key F 1 is set for main SIP phone line.
  2. Key F 2 is set up to speed dial provider ACME.
  3. Key F 3 is set to capture call when ringing on some other team member phone.
  4. Key F 4 is set to dial 141 code and wait for user enter final destination. This will force outbound call to show anonymous CLI.
  5. Key F 5 is set to dial 1 code and wait for user enter final destination. This will force outbound call to show London CLI based on VoIPstudio set up.
  6. Keys number F 6 and F 7 are set to enable and disable pre-defined call forwarding.

Note this keys to work require proper adjustments under VoIP platform for prefix used.

Security

An IP phone that is reachable from the internet is the most common way an account ends up making calls it never intended to make. Steps below enforce device security and reduce that risk.

Change the default administrator password

Every Fanvil phone ships with the same well-known admin login. If this hasn't been changed, treat it as the first thing to fix.

  1. Under System section.
  2. Navigate to Account tab.
  3. Select the admin user.
  4. Enter a new password - avoid anything short, guessable, or reused from another device.
  5. Click Apply

Disable Direct IP Calls

Direct IP calling lets the phone place or receive calls straight to an IP address, bypassing your SIP account entirely. Leaving this enabled gives an attacker on the network a way to call out through the phone without ever needing your SIP credentials.

  1. Under Settings section (shown as Phone settings on older firmware).
  2. Navigate to Features tab.
  3. In Basic Settings, clear the Allow IP Call check box.
  4. Click Apply

Restrict access to the phone web interface

The web interface is where every setting above is changed, so it should not be reachable from outside the local network.

  1. Under Network section.
  2. Navigate to Service Port tab.
  3. Set Web Server Type to HTTPS.
  4. Change HTTP Port from the default 80 to another free port.
  5. Click Apply and reboot the phone.
