How to set calls as spam suspects on Android

VoIP phone service background
VoIP Services

Some Android phones allow users to label calls as suspicious of spam or unwanted calls based on the number from where the call is made. These labels are part of a collaborative database. Basically, the label doesn’t just apply to the terminal or user who has identified the “suspicious” number. This number becomes marked as suspicious of spam for all users of Android that have access to this feature.

This functionality is very useful to prevent responding to these awful calls.

But sometimes it can lead to mistakes. For example: it can be an awful call from a supplier trying to sell you something you don’t need or want. But it can also be a call that you are waiting for from a supplier who has an update about your purchase or incident.

How to activate/deactivate the label

Final users that receive the call can activate or deactivate the service of identification of spam in their Android device following the next steps:

  1. Open the mobile app from the device.
  2. Press “More”> “Settings”>  “Call ID and Spam”.
  3. Activate or deactivate this option.
  4. *Optional: You can also  activate the option to filter the possible calls of spam so this type of calls won’t ring in the phone. You won’t receive lost calls notifications or voice mails either, but the filtered calls will appear in the history.

Google’s caller ID shows the name of companies and services that are on the “Google My Business” files. It also searches for coincidences on the directories who have information about calls of accounts for work or education centers.

This service is not available for all Android devices. Some firmware versions do not have this feature.

What to do if our business number is marked as Spam

It can happen that our business number has been labeled as “suspicious of spam. To avoid this, we can only suggest:

  1. Using a different contact number from the company to make commercial calls. Basically if we already have a known contact number, it would be a good idea to incorporate a different number, which is not labeled, to make commercial calls.
  2. Try registering the business telephone number on “Google My Business”, this way it should show the company name when the call is made.
  3. Report the error listed as Spam. To do this check section above.

How to report an error listed as Spam

If a call from a company or someone you know is marked as spam, you can inform about this error following this steps:

  1. Open the telephone app
  2. Press into recent calls
  3. Select the call that is marked as Spam.
  4. Press “Unlock number” > Unlock.

From now on, this call number won’t be marked as spam.
